A Necessary Encounter: "Leather & Wines". Celebrating Cutting-edge Craftsmanship and Tradition

Did you know that the key to success in fashion and wine making might lie in Time and Tradition? What shared secrets connect the crafting of a fine Sherry wine and the manufacturing of a quality leather bag? How do centuries of tradition intertwine in two of the most iconic products of our region?
Last Thursday, June 6, we had the privilege of attending a unique event in Jerez de la Frontera: “Leather & Wines.” This gathering aimed to unite the two most emblematic and export-driven sectors of our province of Cádiz: the leather goods industry of Ubrique and the prestigious wines of Jerez. For Crush Leather Goods, it was an unforgettable experience, full of discoveries and deep connections with our roots, made possible by Movex and the Regulatory Council of Sherry and Manzanilla de Sanlúcar de Barrameda.

Jerez, known worldwide for its Designation of Origin Jerez, Xerez, Sherry, and Manzanilla de Sanlúcar de Barrameda, boasts the oldest designation of origin in Spain, encompassing the most exquisite and traditional wines. Meanwhile, Ubrique, with centuries of history in leather manufacturing, is the cornerstone of creating leather goods for the world's most prestigious brands. These two seemingly different worlds shared the stage at “Leather & Wines,” revealing surprising parallels.
During the event, we had the opportunity to present our brand of leather bags, Crush Leather Goods. Attendees could closely appreciate our collections and experience the quality and variety of the leathers we use. It was an honour to share our passion and dedication with an audience so versed in the interpretation of the senses.

The main event of “Leather & Wines” was a unique and evocative wine tasting. The tasting was conducted blindfolded, adding an element of mystery and excitement. Before tasting the wines, we were presented with various types of leather, inviting us to explore their textures, finishes, and feel without using our sense of sight. This multi-sensory exercise led us to a deep connection with the materials.
During the tasting, we were honored by the presence and wisdom of Pepe Ferrer, Gastronomic Ambassador of the Sherry Regulatory Council and renowned journalist. His explanations and descriptions enriched our sensations and appreciation of the wines. Simultaneously, Javier Gallego, Manager of the Leather Technology Center, offered us a detailed and passionate insight into the characteristics and attributes of the different leathers.

Through this experience, we discovered numerous parallels between the process of creating leather and Jerez wine:
Care of the Raw Material: The importance of attending to every detail from the source, whether in the vineyard or the tannery, is essential for obtaining a superior final product.
Vision and Origin: Knowing what product we want to create requires selecting and treating the raw material with the specific care it needs.
Communication and Transparency: It is essential to communicate the processes and behavior of these “living raw materials” clearly and honestly to educate and connect with our customers.
Authenticity and Tradition: In a world dominated by speed and immediacy, we deeply value the power of authenticity, craftsmanship, and tradition.
Time and Excellence: Both in leather and wine, good things take time. Patience and care at every stage of the process are reflected in the quality and excellence of the final product.

In a way, the “Leather & Wines” event not only allowed us to celebrate two of our region's greatest prides but also reminded us of the importance of tradition, craftsmanship, and time in creating exceptional products. At Crush Leather Goods, we are committed to honoring these values in each of our leather bags and accessories, bringing a piece of Ubrique and its rich heritage to every corner of the world.
Thank you for joining us on this journey and for being part of our story.
