But what we may not imagine is that sometimes the most beautiful stories are not only “woven in leather”, but also into the lives of those who work with it. Today, we want to share the story of Rubén, one of the most cherished members of our team at CRUSH Leather Goods, whose life is as deeply intertwined with Ubrique as our creations are with tradition and love for excellence.

Rubén is not originally from Ubrique, the heart of Spain’s leather goods industry. He was born and raised in Grazalema, another picturesque village in the Sierra de Cádiz, known for its stunning mountainous landscapes and close connection to nature. However, his love for Ubrique didn’t stem from leather, but from his heart. It was his partner, born and raised in Ubrique, who introduced him to this place full of history and art. For months, Rubén and his partner were in a long-distance relationship. Although Grazalema and Ubrique are only 30 Kilometres apart, separated by a winding road through the mountains, each bend and valley emphasised the distance they felt. But sometimes, love becomes the force that drives big decisions. And so it was for Rubén.

Driven by the desire to be closer to the person he loved, Rubén decided to move to Ubrique. It wasn’t a decision made lightly; it meant leaving behind his home, his traditional life in Grazalema, and starting anew. But Rubén wasn’t just seeking to be near his partner, he also wanted to be part of something bigger. He decided that if he was going to make Ubrique his new home, he wanted to embrace what the place represents: Leather Craft Tradition.

Rubén enrolled at the prestigious Escuela de Artesanos de la Piel de Ubrique (School of Leather Artisans of Ubrique), a place where knowledge and skills are passed down from generation to generation, like a living legacy. During his time at the school, he learned the art of leatherwork, from the most basic techniques to more complex processes. But beyond the technical skills, Rubén absorbed the spirit of dedication, precision, and patience that handcrafted work requires. He knew this was the path he wanted to follow, and he was determined to find his place in the world of leathercraft.

After completing his training, Rubén came to our workshop at CRUSH Leather Goods with a shy smile but eyes full of determination. He told us his story, his journey from Grazalema, his love for a person, and his newfound love for Ubrique. There was something in the way he spoke that captivated us. His story wasn’t just about professional training; it was a story of passion and chasing dreams. And that passion was exactly what we were looking for in our team.

From his very first day with us, Rubén showed that he wasn’t just there to learn, but to contribute. His attention to detail and his skill in cutting and preparing leather quickly made him a key part of our team. Today, we cannot imagine our production process without him. Rubén is a testament to the idea that when we follow our hearts and work with dedication, success and personal fulfilment come as a natural consequence.
